Who Are We

Thabitha Community Care Services is a health focused NPO, situated in the South Durban Basin, Durban, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. The NGO started in March 2011 in response to fulfilling health gaps identified in the community.

Our projects and programs focus on improving the emotional, physical, social and psychological wellbeing of the communities we serve which are Wentworth , Merebank, Bluff, Jacobs and surrounding fence-line communities. Our key health focus areas are strengthening health systems, preventing and treating HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, preventing and treating Substance Use Disorder and Adolescent Youth Friendly Sexual Reproductive Health Services. We also collaborate in the development and introduction of health systems that address key causes of illness in adolescents and young adults.
Our organization provides comprehensive primary health care support to our communities enabling them to undertake health – promoting practices that result in improved health status.

We rely on services of volunteers and youth to carry out projects and programs.

The organization has a board of directors that ensures sound governance practices and ensures the needs of the communities are met. The director of the organization is a Registered Clinical Nurse Practitioner, Registered Midwife, a Registered Community Health Practitioner and has a Bachelor degree in Nursing Education et Management. She has a wealth of experience in the medical profession.

Thabitha Teens for Change: Divergent Program

Substance Abuse Program

The substance abuse program is based on primary prevention strategy, the promotive strategy and the rehabilitative strategy. Services offered are:

  • Substance Screening and testing
  • Preventative strategy which includes creating awareness about drugs and their harmful effects at locals Senior primary and high schools, local youth groups and church youth groups
  • Adolescent and youth skills empowerment workshops on peer pressure, social media addiction, decision making skills etc.
  • Parental skills workshops educating parents and caregivers on issues relating to drugs such creating awareness, parenting a drug addicted child, Enabling a drug addicted child, where to go to for assistance etc.
  • Creating awareness to ECD Educators and other other educators
  • Creating awareness to community leaders
  • Substance addiction counselling by an addiction counsellor
  • Diversion program to adolescents and youth involved with gangsterism, drug peddling and drug abuse
  • We offer The Journey to Recovery Drug Rehabilitation program.

Nutrition Program

The NPO has a dedicated team of volunteers who cook hot nutritious meals three days a week. On average 400 meals are distributed per feed.

Community Health and Wellness Outreach Programs

The health and wellness team of volunteers carry out community outreach programs creating awareness and educating the communities on Drug abuse and the harmful effects, HIV/AIDS/ ,TB and STI and other diseases burdening the community. Outreach health and wellness campaigns offer services like BP testing, Glucose testing,TB testing drug testing and other health screenings in the schools, youth groups, local health facilities and in the community.

Girl Child Sanitary Pad/Hygiene program

Sanitary towels and hygiene packs are given to the less fortunate girls and young women to prevent them from absenteeism from school during their monthly period.

Adolescent Friendly Sexual and Reproductive Health Services

Weekly reproductive health clinic to attend to the sexual and reproductive health needs of adolescents and youth.
